Voices of the Mountains
Kingsport has been fortunate to have a chorus affiliated with its symphony since 1958. When the symphony became regional, the chorus did, also. By merging with the Bristol Concert Choir in 2003, Voices of the Mountains (VOTM) was created as an auditioned, regional chorus affiliated with Symphony of the Mountains. The goal of the chorus is to provide the highest quality choral music to audiences of all ages throughout our region.
Voices of the Mountains sings annually with Symphony of the Mountains at the December holiday concert and one spring concert. Additionally, VOTM performs independently in the fall and spring of each concert season. The chorus’s repertoire varies from Renaissance motets and madrigals, Baroque oratorios, Viennese masses, to modern folk songs. Recent performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria have been well received. An ensemble from Voices of the Mountains performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall in January 2006 and May 2008
Voices of the Mountains is conducted by Dr. Matthew V. Potterton and accompanied by Steve Sensenig.

Voices of the Mountains, the chorus affiliated with Symphony of the Mountains, will begin its twentieth season in the Fall of 2023.
Auditions for our 2023-2024 Season will be held soon, time TBA.
If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Lynetta Johnson (Manager) at 276.591.9019.
You do not need to prepare anything for the audition. The most important thing is that you have a passion for music and are willing to work to make the highest quality music possible.
Monday night rehearsals will alternate weekly between Kingsport and Bristol. This facilitates rehearsal attendance for chorus members who drive from long distances and equitably distributes the commuting required. Carpools are available and encouraged.
The chorus meets on Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
